Match Report
Uppingham School Boys-U15B vs  Stamford
On: Saturday, 02 Oct 2021
Venue: at Home

It was another excellent day on the middle for rugby this weekend, with Stamford visiting us. Rain, wind and last minute personnel changes were thrown at the mighty 15 Bs, but our group is full of lovers of adverse conditions, and once again we put together a performance to be proud of, thriving under the challenges.

We started the game at a much improved level and for the first time this year we were dominant in attack and bullets in the ruck in the first 10, leading to a well executed overlap for Eric Lai to glide over to open the scoring. The weather did have its say, making handling and ground work tough going, and with some persistent attacking from Stamford and a well taken interception from Johnny Wyatt we went into the break 10-12 down. Into the 2nd half we missed the ball carrying of Ed Alston when we went up to the As (where he carried himself over the tryline towards the end of their match!), but Ned Noel stepped up his carrying game, eventually crashing over towards the final stages of the game.

As has been the case every week, as the game wore on our boys became more and more dominant, playing at pace, finding spaces and handling very well in difficulty. Unfortunately a few times we were second to winning the race which allowed Stamford a few tries in the early stages of the second half, and despite a dominant final 10 minutes it was too much of a gap this week. The grandstand finish as in the Warwick game was on the cards but the last ditch try never came, leaving us 7 points short at the final whistle.

Best on the Ball: Noel

Best off the Ball: Eggar
